How To Make A Football Cake Stadium Tutorial

The high-level steps to make this stadium cake are:

  1. Bake The Cake
  2. Frost The Cake
  3. Add The Stadium Details
  4. Make The Goal Posts

Step 1: Bake The Cake

First, bake the cake in a 9×13 cake pan according to the instructions on the box.

Let the cake cool completely on a wire rack before transferring it to a serving tray.

Step 2: Frost The Cake

While the cake is cooling, color the vanilla frosting with green food gel.

Then, frost the cake with green icing.

Step 3: Add The Stadium Details

Next, create six horizontal lines approximately two inches apart using white cookie icing.

Add rainbow sprinkles along the two long sides of the cakes.

Then, using the white cookie icing, write ‘TOUCHDOWN’ in both end zones.

Step 4: Make The Chocolate Goal Posts

Add the chocolate to the large bowl and melt according to the package instructions, or follow these guidelines:

  1. Microwave on high for 45 seconds, then stir thoroughly.
  2. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir thoroughly.
  3. Continue microwaving in 15 to 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly, until all the chocolate has just about melted. (The remaining few pieces should melt on their own, and it’s a good way to ensure you don’t overheat the chocolate).

Next, transfer the chocolate into a candy piping bag. Snip the end of the bag with scissors.

Then, trace goal posts onto a piece of parchment paper.

Once the chocolate has hardened remove the chocolate goal posts and place them at the center of each short ends of the cake.

Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

How To Make A Single Football Cake Ball

If you want to include the single football cake ball without making a second cake, trip the dome off the top of the 9×13 cake before frosting it.

If you do this, apply a crumb coat to the cake before frosting it, to avoid cake crumbs from getting mixed in with the green frosting.

Therefore, you’ll need a second container of frosting (for the crumb coat and cake ball).

Tips For Decorating With Cookie Icing And Chocolate

Writing “TOUCHDOWN”

It’s generally a good idea to practice writing words on a piece of parchment paper before the cake itself.

You could also lightly trace “TOUCHDOWN” on the green frosting using a toothpick.

Making The Chocolate Goal Posts

I recommend melting at least 2 cups of chocolate candy wafers, so you have plenty to practice.

For perfect goal posts, draw a goal post shape on the parchment paper itself using a pencil. Then fold the parchment paper in half, and trace the shape with melted chocolate.
