Overview Of Halloween Cake Mix Cookies

Before we jump into each of the 3 different ways to make these Halloween cookies, let’s talk about what each recipe has in common, so that we don’t have to cover the same information multiple times.

Each Halloween cookie recipe requires four ingredients:

  1. Cake Mix (1 box)
  2. Eggs (2 large)
  3. Canola Oil (½ cup)
  4. Halloween mix-ins (M&Ms or candy corn)

  3. Then, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  4. Next, chill the dough in the fridge for 20 – 30 minutes.
  5. Then, bake for 10-13 minutes.

Honesty, y’all, these cookies are a game-changer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why add the toppings after I bake the cookies?

To maximize festive-ness!

Actually, there is a bigger reason:

Candy corn will melt, burn, and make a mess if it touches the cookie tray while it’s baking in the oven.

You could ‘hide’ them in the dough, but I like my candy where I can see it 🙂

Note you can add the M&Ms into the cake mix, if you prefer.

Do I need to chill cake mix cookie dough?

Cake mix cookie dough is soft:

  1. Chilling the dough before creating the 1″ round balls makes the dough easier to work with.
  2. Chilling the dough before baking helps avoid the cookies from being flat as a pancake.

If you don’t mind working with soft dough or flat cookies, you don’t need to chill the dough.

How do I store cake mix cookies?

Cake mix cookies taste the best shortly after they have been removed from the oven while they are still warm.

If you have leftovers, I recommend storing them in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Enjoy the cookies chilled, or remove them 30 minutes before serving, so they can come to room temperature.

When to serve Halloween cake mix cookies?

There are so many occasions to serve these cake mix cookies! Here are some of my favorites:

  1. Skeleton Charcuterie Board
  2. Halloween Cookie Decorating Party
  3. Halloween Party
