Cookies
Your options for cookies are sugar cookies, cake mix cookies, and ready-to-bake cookie dough from the store.
Consider time and who will be decorating the cookies in your decision.
- Sugar cookies: Sugar cookies take the most time to make but are also the most festive! I recommend sugar cookies for teenagers and adults, if you have the time to make them. This is my favorite sugar cookie recipe.
- Cake mix cookies: I opted for strawberry, chocolate, and funfetti cake mix cookies to keep this simple yet delicious. These are probably best suited for children, but I still had a ton of fun decorating them! Check out my Funfetti cake mix cookies recipe for detailed instructions.
- Reay-to-bake sugar cookies: I recommend these cookies if you don’t want to use cake mix cookies but don’t have the time to make homemade sugar cookies.

How To Make A Decorate Your Own Easter Cookies
For a consolidated list of instructions, head to the recipe card.
- Bake the cookies
- Color the coconut
- Color the frosting
- Fill small bowls with Easter toppings
- Arrange your board
Step 1: Bake The Cookies
I recommend baking the cookies first, so you can assemble the board all at once.
For homemade sugar cookies, you can prepare the cookie dough in advance and bake the cookies the day (or two days) before serving your Easter cookie board.
For cake mix cookies, I recommend preparing and baking them in the same day. However, you can make the the day before.
I recommend this 15 x 21 inch cookie sheet for baking multiple batches of cookies at once.
Step 2: Color The Coconut
Place 1 cup of shredded coconut in a large bag.
Next, add a few drops of pink food coloring gel.
Then, shake the bag well until you achieved the desired color coconut.
Transfer the coconut to a small sauce bowl.
Repeat these steps with another cup of coconut but swap pink food coloring for green food coloring.
Note: I recommend letting the coconut sit in a bowl over night before coloring it. This will dry the coconut flakes out slightly and make it a lot easier to color.
Step 3: Color The Frosting
Transfer the chocolate and cream cheese frosting to separate small sauce bowls.
Add a few drops of purple food coloring gel to the vanilla frosting and mix well.
Then, transfer the frosting to a small sauce bowl.
Coloring the vanilla frosting is optional, but I think it’s a great way to add even more color and options to your Easter cookie board.
Step 4: Fill Small Bowls With Easter Toppings
While every topping doesn’t need to be served in a bowl, the small toppings, such as sprinkles, definitely should.
Step 5: Arrange The Cookie Board
Now for the most fun part!
Begin by placing the small bowls with coconut, frosting, and toppings across your board.
Next, place handfuls of different types of cookies across your board.
Lastly, fill empty space with Easter cookie toppings and snacks.
