Easy and Inexpensive American Flag Cheese Tray Ideas

We all love a good charcuterie board, but they can require a lot of ingredients and get expensive pretty quickly. This post includes three easy and inexpensive American Flag Cheese Tray Ideas that will impress your friends:

  1. Candy
  2. Snack
  3. Charcuterie

What all three American Flag Cheese Trays Have In Common

  1. You don’t need special ingredients or equipment (any cookie tray or flat serving board will do).
  2. You can prepare this tray at the last minute, and without making a mess in the kitchen.
  3. There are plenty of ingredient substitution options for each tray.

American Flag Cheese Tray Ideas: #1 Candy

This ‘candy’-themed American Flag Cheese Tray is inspired by my childhood.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, we would spend weekends at the lake with my family snacking on Swedish Fish the whole time.

As an adult, I can confirm this tray is not just for kids.

  2. Swedish Fish (12 oz)
  3. Blue Gummy Sharks (7.75 oz)

Candy Tray Tips & Recommendations

American Flag Cheese Tray Ideas: #2 Snack

This ‘snack’-themed American Flag Cheese Tray is the perfect combination of sweet and salty. It’s also super quick to throw together, too – simply slice one large red bell pepper and white cheddar cheese and arrange our board.

American Flag Snack Tray with blackberries, cheese, pepper, crackers, and tomatoes

Snack Tray Ingredients

  1. Blackberries (1 pint)
  2. Extra-Sharp White Cheddar Cheese (16 oz, cubed)
  3. Red Bell Pepper (1 large)
  4. Grape Tomatoes (1/2 pint)
  5. White Star Sprinkles

Snack Tray Tips & Recommendations

  • Substitution ideas:
    • Blue: blueberries, blue corn chips
    • Red: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, pepperoni
    • White: nuts, popcorn, white chocolate covered pretzels
  • I don’t recommend using watermelon on any snack tray, since it contains so much water, it makes everything around it soggy.
  • To make this recipe even simpler, stick to one red color snack (e.g. red bell pepper OR grape tomatoes) and one white color snack.
  • You can slice the cheese and the pepper the night before and store them individually in air-tight containers in the refrigerator with a paper towel.
  • Strive for each snack to be the same size. For example, don’t use long thin red bell peppers and cheese cubes.

American Flag Cheese Tray Ideas: #3 Charcuterie

This ‘charcuterie’-themed American Flag Cheese Tray sticks to the classic cured meats and cheese.

Charcuterie Tray Ingredients

  1. Blue corn chips (1 handful)
  2. Extra-Sharp White Cheddar Cheese (8 oz, sliced)
  3. Club crackers (1 sleeve)
  4. Turkey pepperoni (4 oz)
  5. White Star Sprinkles

Charcuterie Tray Tips & Recommendations

  • Substitution ideas:
    • Blue: blueberries, blackberries
    • Red: pepperoni, salami, Proscuitto
    • White: nuts, popcorn, white chocolate covered pretzels
  • You can slice the cheese the night before and store it in air-tight containers in the refrigerator.
  • I recommend using rectangular crackers (not circular) so that all the white ‘stripes’ are the same shape.
