- They are customizable in every way: quantity, pretzel shape, toppings, and chocolate. This makes for meaningful, homemade Christmas presents.
- They are easy to make. The hardest part of this recipe is melting the chocolate. However, if you use quality chocolate (like Merkens), it’s really a breeze (check out the instructions below) and a fun recipe to make with kids or if you’re in a hurry.
- Clean up is a breeze: once you’re done, simply fold up the parchment paper, place it in the trash, and rinse the dishes.
- They last long: in terms of storage, I mean. They will probably be the first to go at your Christmas party. ? Keep the chocolate-covered pretzels in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 3 weeks.

5 Types of Christmas Chocolate Covered Pretzels
#1: Chocolate Pretzels With Christmas Sprinkles
Kicking our options off with the classic topping for chocolate-dipped pretzels: sprinkles.
Not only do they look so festive, but they are also probably the easiest to find at your local grocery store.
#2: Chocolate Pretzels With Christmas M&M Minis
Mars chocolate makes Pretzel M&Ms for a reason: they taste delicious together.
Just make sure to buy the mini-sized M&Ms and not the regular size because the regular-sized M&Ms are too big to stick to the chocolate.
#3: Chocolate Pretzels With Mini Marshmallows
Ok guys, quick PSA: You can buy those dehydrated mini marshmallows found in Swiss hot chocolate packets in bulk on Amazon.
Note, it’s important to use the marshmallows linked above and not regular mini marshmallows because the regular ‘minis’ are too big for the pretzel rods.
PS: Dehydrated mini marshmallows are perfect for a Christmas Hot Chocolate Board, too!
#4: Chocolate Pretzels With Peppermint Chips
Peppermint and chocolate are some of the most popular Christmas flavors and they also make a perfect pairing for Christmas pretzel toppings.
Chocolate Pretzels With Andes Creme De Menthe Baking Chips
Andes Creme De Menthe Chocolates are another popular Christmas flavor!
If you can’t find the baking chips at the store, you can buy the bars and chop them into smaller pieces.
How To Make Christmas Chocolate Covered Pretzels
- First, line your kitchen counter (or baking tray) with parchment paper.
- Next, transfer the Christmas toppings from their packages to mini bowls.
- Then, add the chocolate candy melts to a large microwave-safe bowl.
- Melt the chocolate in the microwave. The amount of chocolate you are melting will determine how long you need to melt your chocolate. For about 6-8 cups of Merkens chocolate:
- Start with 50 seconds at 100%.
- Then. remove the chocolate from the microwave and mix thoroughly.
- Microwave again at 25 seconds at 100%.
- Remove and mix the chocolate well.
- Microwave at 15 seconds at 70%, remove from microwave, and mix again.
- You may need to repeat the above step, once or twice more, mixing well each time, being extremely careful not to overheat. The chocolate is ready when about 90% of the chunks have melted. Stir the chocolate with a spatula for the last few chunks since they will melt just by being submerged in other hot chocolate.
- Then, place the bowl of melted chocolate next to the parchment paper.
- Next, dip about ¾ of the pretzel rod into the chocolate.
- Gently tap off excess chocolate, place the chocolate pretzel on the parchment paper, and add your toppings.
- Repeat with remaining pretzels.
- Wait about 5 minutes for the chocolate hardens to serve or store them.
- Enjoy!
