Why This Red White And Blue Bark Recipe Is Different

I know, I know, there are already so many patriotic chocolate bark recipes on Pinterest.

Do we really need another?

Most of the patriotic bark recipes out there use melted red, white, and blue chocolate.

This recipe uses dark chocolate as the base, with red, white, and blue toppings. Why?

Colored chocolate is not only harder to work with (it’s extremely tough to get it to a perfect consistency), but it also dries a lot faster.

So, even if you work quickly, the chocolate may harden before you add all of your toppings.

And, if you’re like me, you need time to perfect the placement of each and every m&m, sprinkle, pretzel, etc. on your chocolate bark.

Add on top of that, the warmer temperatures in the summer time, you run the risk of eating chocolate with a side or red, white, and blue candies.

Red White And Blue Bark Ingredients

There are so many different ingredient options to chose from when making chocolate bark! I listed more ingredient ideas further down in this post. Here’s what I used for this chocolate bark recipe:

  1. Dark chocolate candy melts: the ‘glue’ for your chocolate bark.
  2. Red, white, and blue m&m’s: to make the bark patriotic.
  3. Red, white, and blue sprinkles: to make the more bark patriotic.
  4. White and blue star sprinkles: to make the even more bark patriotic.
  5. Light blue chocolate candy melts: to add another pop of color.
  6. Dry roasted peanuts: to add crunch and to balance out the chocolate and sweet toppings.
  7. Mini pretzels: to add crunch and to balance out the chocolate and sweet toppings.
  8. Oreos: a last-minute addition to add more texture to the chocolate bark (and I LOVE chocolate with Oreos).

Tips For Your Red White And Blue Bark

Ingredient Note

One of the many reasons I love chocolate bark is because there are no measurements required – seriously! Use as many m&ms, Oreos, pretzels, etc. as your heart desires.

Storing Chocolate Bark

Store your chocolate bark pieces in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to a month.
