Ingredients To Make A Quesadilla Board

There are four main ingredients to make a quesadilla board. For the exact amounts and quantities used in this board, check out the recipe card below.

1. Quesadillas

This is obvious, of course, but we need to mention it! I used three different quesadilla recipes (chicken, beef, and veggie) for this board so that you have options for your own board, but feel free to stick to just one!

Below, are the exact quesadilla recipes I used on this board.

Keep in mind, if you decide to stick with multiple quesadilla recipes, you will likely have leftover ingredients, depending on how many people you are serving.

For example, you only need two flour, two sun-dried tomatoes basil, and two spinach tortillas, so you will have six tortillas left in each package since they come in packs of eight tortillas.

2. Chips

The ultimate quesadilla side is tortilla chips. I used Trader Joe’s Veggie & Flaxseed Tortilla Chips to make this board full of color, but Classic Santitas Tortilla Chips and Tostitos Blue Corn Chips work great, too.

3. Dips

Dips are probably my favorite part about quesadillas. This board includes sour cream, salsa verde, queso, salsa, sweet corn dip, and guacamole. Other dip ideas include pico de gallo, avocado salsa, and white queso.

4. Veggies

Lastly, let’s not forget some veggies! Grape tomatoes and mini sweet peppers are my favorites for this board because they are full of color. Other ideas include sliced avocado, sweet potato fries (they count as veggies, right?). Also, you can optionally garnish your tray with green onion and cilantro.

Equipment To Make A Quesadilla Board

  1. Large non-stick skillet: to make the quesadillas.
  2. Turner: to flip the quesadillas and heat the second side.
  3. Chef’s knife: to slice the quesadillas into individual pieces.
  4. Large serving board: to arrange and present your quesadilla board.
  5. Small glass serving bowls: for quesadilla dips (e.g. salsa, sour cream, etc.).
  6. Tongs: for serving.

How To Make A Quesadilla Board

  1. First, make the quesadillas and cut each into 8 equal pieces.
  2. Next, halve the mini sweet peppers.
  3. Pour the dips into small glass bowls.
  4. Arrange the small glass bowls from the bottom left to the upper right corner.
  5. Position 2-3 quesadilla slices on alternating slides of each small glass bowl, with the exception of the top right corner and bottom, left corner.
  6. Next, add the mini sweet peppers around some of the small glass bowls, to cover any white spaces.
  7.  Lastly, fill the remaining white sections with additional quesadilla slices and chips.

What Is a Good Side for Quesadillas?

Quesadillas are a versatile and delicious dish that can be paired with various sides to complement their flavors. Here are some popular and tasty options:

  1. Salsa: A classic accompaniment to quesadillas, salsa adds a refreshing and tangy element to the cheesy goodness. You can use store-bought salsa or make your own with diced tomatoes, onions, cilantro, lime juice, and a touch of jalapeno for some heat.
  2. Guacamole: Creamy and flavorful, guacamole is another traditional side that goes perfectly with quesadillas. It’s made from mashed avocados, diced tomatoes, onions, lime juice, cilantro, and seasonings.
  3. Sour Cream: The cool and creamy texture of sour cream complements the richness of quesadillas. It helps balance out any spiciness and adds a delightful contrast.
  4. Pico de Gallo: Similar to salsa, pico de gallo is a fresh mix of diced tomatoes, onions, cilantro, jalapenos, and lime juice. It provides a burst of flavor and a crunchy texture.
  5. Mexican Rice: Serve your quesadillas with a side of fluffy and flavorful Mexican rice. The combination of the two makes for a satisfying meal.
  6. Refried Beans: These creamy and savory beans work well as a side dish for quesadillas. Spread them on the tortilla before adding the cheese for a more substantial filling.
  7. Corn Salad: A light and refreshing corn salad with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, and cilantro can add a delightful crunch and sweetness to your meal.
  8. Grilled Vegetables: For a healthier option, try grilled vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, and onions. The smoky flavor of the vegetables pairs nicely with the cheesy quesadillas.
  9. Mexican Street Corn (Elote): This flavorful grilled corn dish is typically coated in a creamy mixture of mayonnaise, lime juice, cotija cheese, and chili powder. It’s a perfect side for quesadillas.
  10. Black Bean Salad: A zesty black bean salad with corn, bell peppers, cilantro, and lime dressing is a great option if you want a protein-packed side.

Quesadilla Board Tips

Perfecting the Quesadilla Crunch: For those tantalizingly crispy quesadillas, choose flour tortillas and ensure you have a good melt of cheeses like monterey jack and cheddar. Before placing your quesadilla in the oven, give it a careful flip to ensure both sides are golden brown.

Elevate with Mini Condiments: Create a visually appealing and tasty quesadilla board by adding an array of mini condiments. From a spicy red salsa to a creamy white queso and the tang of salsa verde, the dips will elevate every bite. Don’t forget store-bought or homemade guacamole and pico de gallo to add depth of flavor.

The Meaty Affair: While shredded chicken is a classic filling, don’t hesitate to experiment with beef or even vegetarian alternatives. When seasoning your meat, consider the other toppings and dips on your board to create a harmonious flavor combination.

Diversify with Tortilla Varieties: While many stick to the traditional flour tortilla, introducing sun-dried tomato tortillas or spinach tortillas can add a burst of color and flavor to your Mexican board. This variety not only makes the dish visually appealing but also adds a unique twist to the classic quesadilla recipe.

Presentation is Key: When setting up your quesadilla board, consider a charcuterie-style approach. Spread out tortilla chips, slices of mini sweet peppers, chunks of queso fresco, and bowls of sour cream strategically around the board. For a festive touch, sprinkle fresh cilantro and red onions for added color and taste. Remember, the key is to make it as appetizing to the eyes as it is to the palate!

Quesadilla Presentation

The board isn’t just about the quesadillas; it’s about the presentation. It’s complemented with vibrant accompaniments like tortilla chips, queso, salsa, sour cream, and a plethora of other dips. Furthermore, it showcases an array of tortilla types, from the classic flour to sun-dried tomato and spinach varieties, creating not just a treat for the taste buds but also a visual feast. This board isn’t just about consuming food; it’s about immersing oneself in a Mexican fiesta. Perfect for occasions like Cinco de Mayo, Super Bowl parties, or any festive gathering, this quesadilla charcuterie board elevates the dining experience by blending taste, texture, and presentation seamlessly.

Conclusion

In conclusion, crafting the perfect quesadilla board is more than just a meal; it’s an experience. Whether you choose to cook from scratch or opt for store-bought dips and baked goods, remember, it’s all about the presentation and mix of flavors.

So, the next time you’re looking for a creative dinner idea or planning a Cinco de Mayo party, let this quesadilla recipe be your guide. Carefully flip those quesadillas, serve immediately, and watch as your guests are transported to a culinary fiesta with every bite!
