Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- So many occasions to serve! My favorite occasion to serve this recipe is definitely during the Super Bowl, but other great occasions to serve this dish include patriotic holidays & BBQs.
- You can prep ingredients in advance! I’m big on breaking up recipes over multiple days since I generally don’t have hours in a day to prep for an event. For this recipe, feel free to cook the chicken and bacon a few days in advance.
- Plenty of substitution options! Feel free to swap sharp cheddar cheese for mozzarella, omit the bacon, and/or add in sliced (drained) pineapple.

How to Make A BBQ Chicken Crescent Ring
There are three main steps to make this recipe:
1. Prepare the BBQ Chicken Mixture
First, prepare the chicken.
- I love to use this easy crockpot shredded BBQ chicken for this recipe.
- Alternatively, you could also purchase shredded chicken and simply mix it in the BBQ sauce.
Next, cook and chop the bacon.
Step 2: Assemble the Crescent Ring
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Next, line a baking tray with tin foil and cover it with baking spray.
Place a small cup in the center of the baking tray as a guideline for making your ring.
Next, remove the crescent dough from the packaging and position each piece of dough around the small cup.
Then, remove the small cup and evenly distribute the BBQ chicken mixture around the ring.
As a rule of thumb, aim for the chicken mixture to be about 1.5″ wide and 1.5″ high.
Top with chopped bacon and shredded cheese.
Then, fold the ends of the crescent rolls over the BBQ chicken.
Whisk one egg in a small bowl.
Using a pastry brush, cover the top of the crescent ring with the egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water).
This will make your crescent ring be shiny, golden brown after baking.
Step 3: Bake & Serve
Bake the prepared crescent ring for 23 minutes.
Let the crescent ring rest in the baking tray for 5 minutes before transferring it to a cutting board.
Top with BBQ sauce and cilantro.
Serve with ranch or blue cheese.
Enjoy!
BBQ Chicken Crescent Ring Recipe Notes
Time-Saving Tips
- Bacon bits: Use bacon bits, instead of frying bacon to save time and skip grease.
- Canned chicken: Use canned chicken, instead of cooking and shredding chicken breasts. I promise, once you pair canned chicken with BBQ sauce, cheese, bacon, and crescent rolls, you’ll hardly notice that the chicken is from a can.
- Prep in advance: If you choose homemade bacon and chicken, feel free to cook the chicken and bacon two to three days in advance. Make sure to allow the chicken and bacon to come to room temperature before baking
Pro Tips
One word: symmetry.
This recipe isn’t hard, but believe me, it’s easy for your ring to turn out annoyingly asymmetrical if you don’t pay attention to a couple of things:
- Shape: I mentioned it above, but I want to emphasize the placement of the BBQ chicken mixture. Make sure the chicken mixture is the same height and width the whole way around the ring.
- Color: Make sure to evenly distribute the egg wash around the ring. If you add more egg wash to one side, then that side may be more golden brown than the other side of the ring.
